How We Make a Difference

We do at our local Minnesota State Legislature what Indivisible does at the National Congressional level, by pressuring our State Legislators in Minnesota to vote NO on State legislation that undermines progressive values and enables the Trump agenda. We also work toward a long term goal of ensuring all levels of government adopt policies and laws that reflect progressive values.

What We Advocate For

Indivisible Minnesota Local advocates for laws and policies at all levels of Minnesota government that embrace values of freedom, opportunity, responsibility, and cooperation. We believe in protecting freedom of speech, association, religion, and the right to control our own bodies. We believe that laws should help everyone be secure and move up in life, and include access to affordable health care, education, a decent job, labor rights, transportation, and a secure retirement without being held back by discrimination based on race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religious faith or non-faith, or disability. We believe that it is our responsibility to achieve social justice and economic conditions that benefit society broadly, including environmental sustainability, fair and equitable elections, and progressive taxation. We believe our laws should reflect empathy and compassion toward others and an understanding that we all are better off when all communities have the resources they need.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Indivisible?

Indivisible is a grassroots movement that emerged after the 2016 presidential election based on a guide written by former congressional staffers. It is composed of independent groups in virtually every legislative district throughout the county, that work to pressure their Congressional Representatives to vote no on legislation that enables President Trump’s agenda.

What is the Indivisible Guide?

After the 2016 presidential election, a handful of former congressional staffers wrote a guide about how to influence congresspeople based on their experience working in Congress. They published it online where people downloaded it and formed groups with their friends and neighbors to implement it’s ideas. The guide can be found here:

Indivisible tries to influence Congress, Didn’t you say you try to influence the state legislature?

Yes, we started by taking the ideas in the Indivisible Guide and applying them to our Minnesota State Legislature. We have evolved somewhat in our practices based on our experience with the legislature, but stopping legislation that enables the Trump agenda is still core to what we do.

What happens when I sign up?

After you sign up, we recommend that you join our Facebook Group (you’ll find the link after you complete the sign up). We also recommend you download our app (you’ll find info about that on our Facebook Page). Through Facebook notifications and through the app, we will notify you when there is an action you can take that will have an impact. This might be calling a legislator, attending an event, attending a legislative committee hearing, or helping to organize something.

What kind of time commitment is this?

You can be involved as little or as much as you want. Through our coordinated effort, you can have a real impact by spending as little as two minutes a day making a call to a legislator based on our daily Call to Action. If you’d like to be more fully engaged, we have several opportunities to help organize the effort both online and in person.
